Lesson of Rest

Each week we take a Sabbath day of rest from work and have a daily hour of quiet time built into each morning. Having that time intentionally built into my day has been a beautiful lesson of simplicity and being quiet in the midst of busyness. Today was the most precious time of rest...after a week of doing much of our food service coordinator's job while she was on a trip, I was really tired coming into today's Sabbath. It was the perfect combination of alone, quiet time & time with great friends. Similar to the rest of the Northwest, we've had over 3 weeks of hot, sunny weather. The first nice Sabbath we had, I was in the mountains on my trip and last week I was working & doing freight over at Malibu for 1/2 of the day, so today was the first Sabbath in 3 weeks that I really had nothing to do. I sat on the dock in the sun all day long, alternating between reading a book that has really sucked me in ("Animal Dreams"...highly recommend it!), jumping into the water, and great conversation with other people on the dock. Then had a great time making dinner with 2 friends...on Sabbath we give our cooks a break and volunteers make meals.

And there's a quick flash update of my day today! I feel rested, recuperated & ready to jump back into work again tomorrow!

A quick prayer request...there's been a quarantined illness at Malibu that's potentially going to impact us here at Beyond. Please, please pray for health there and here...our small little community could really be rocked if it spread over here.

  2. I love the boost that church gives to me every week. I especially love it when we have an exceptionally good lesson in Sunday School. But that's just me.
